The food is good with the typical home cooked style you get throughout the Pantanal. There didn't seem to be anyone who spoke English so it is a good idea to learn some Portuguese phrases to get by. The staff are standoffish and we only really got good service if we were with our guides. They don't really make it clear where they are throwing the fish though and it would be better if they did for photographers so they know where to focus. They throw fish for the hawks from the boats so that you can see them diving. The location of the lodge allows for walks, driving safari and also boat rides. I think this was also the nicest lodge for sitting out and watching the birds and capybara outside the room but it still isn't private. There isn't a safe though which I think is a bit inconvenient for storing valuables. The air conditioning was efficient and there is a fridge. The rooms in this lodge were the nicest rooms we stayed in but were still basic. I think quite a lot of the Pantanal accommodation are very similar. There's a pool but only 3 loungers (very uncomfortable with a metal bar that stuck into my back) and maybe 10 chairs. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were included but no drinks, not even water, and they were expensive, so stock up with whatever drinks you need before you go. Food was OK and plentiful, but there was no atmosphere in the restaurant. There were storms on our last night and we were soaked going for dinner because there's an uncovered area between the rooms and the restaurant. The public areas have no air conditioning and at meal times the restaurant was uncomfortably warm, but we were there at the hottest time of year. The hotel has WiFi but it was temperamental and didn't work in our room which we didn't mind but if it's important to you, request a room close to reception. The bed was comfortable but there was only one very thin pillow each. The air conditioning was efficient and there was a fridge. The rooms were tired and in need of a lick of paint. We did see jaguar, but of course there are no guarantees and we met someone who didn't. Since it was our main reason for going we paid up. It was charged separately at a cost of almost £400 per person for a half day. On arrival we were told we could choose 1 activity each day, but the jaguar safari wasn't available. By the time I booked, the packages had disappeared. When I started looking at this pousada the website included itineraries of the packages available, including a Jaguar safari. Our tour is completely focused on environmental preservation, so we have activities that enable this complementary nature with nature, while maintaining respect and awareness.
